Heavy enough to stand without towels. Large enough for 3 bath towels mostly opened up but definitely folded once the long way. The towels do not touch each other when hanging.The towel when hung over the bar does not touch the bottom grate.There's not a lot of space between towels, but the important thing is they don't touch and air can circulate to dry them. When folded over once, you can also hang a damp washcloth to dry on the same bar completely open. The bottom shelf has a grate/weave opening appearance which is wonderful because the air can dry the towels with nothing blocking it. The bottom shelf stabilizes the rack. Easy to assemble, no tools, one person can do it. Less aggravation if 2 sets of hands are putting it together just to hold the pieces steady when assembling. Looks very nice and sleek. better than the picture."
