In a solar-powered watch, solar energy is captured by the solar panel of photovoltaic cells under the watch dial. This energy is then transferred to the capacitor, which is a battery-like cell, to be stored and used to power the quartz mechanism of the watch.
Traditional quartz watches are driven by energy from a disposable battery cell, which sends an electrical charge to an internal quartz crystal shaped like a tuning fork. The quartz crystal resonates or oscillates at a very precise frequency. The circuit inside the watch counts the vibrations and sends a pulse every second to the watch motor, which drives the mechanism to move the hands and keep time.
